Parkinson's: Protein Pump, Experimental therapy fights Parkinson's is an article written by N. Seppa on April 19 2003 in Volume 163 in Science News. The article was based on a previous article that was published in the may issue of Nature Medicine. The article takes a look at how a protein called GDNF, glial-cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor, can reverse the effect that Parkinson's takes on a person's body. It is a naturally occurring drug within the human body. It is plentiful in younger children but however it diminishes with age. The tests and information throughout the article point are stating that with increased production in the test subjects has proven that it will lead to successful turn a rounds for those people that are suffering from Parkinson's. Some of the result however may have been do to the placebo effect. The drug works by inducing beleaguered dopamine neurons to sprout tendrils from axons, their natural extensions.
