George Hurrell

"George Hurrell defined the word glamour" (Hurrell's Hollywood, 2003, p. 1). He was born in the city of Covington, Kentucky in the year 1904. At a young age, Hurrell began to show an interest in painting and drawing. He, ironically, learned how to use and operate a camera so he could take pictures of his own paintings (About George Hurrell, 2002-2004, p. 1). Hurrell was accepted to the Art Institute of Chicago to study painting. As Hurrell continued to photograph his and other's paintings, he was assigned to Laguna Beach, California art colony in 1925 to photograph not only paintings, but painters as well, "promoting Hurrell to move west to continue his art studies" (About George Hurrell, 2002-2004, p. 1).
