Ethics: Music Downloads
The illegal downloading of music is ethically wrong, but isn't the social injustice that the media wants to portray. Music by nature is a personal expression that one can choose to be digitized and sold. This by nature is the choice of the artist, knowing fully that their music will be bought, and also stolen on a free file sharing website. This can seem like a bad risk when considering to market your music.
Also it can be a blessing to the artist for their music to be distributed amongst millions by the click of a button. A few of their songs might be downloaded, but the sampling of their music then provokes the user to go out and buy it, out of respect to the originator. Isn't that something, people actually giving thanks to the people that made music they enjoyed.
Although there are millions of people with hundreds and thousands of songs on their hard drives, when it gets down to it, artists are still going platinum and seem to be living just fine. If anything the ISP, most often the high speed ISP's are the culprit of mass downloading. The speed of internet web browsing isn't the usual reason for switching to Road Runner or DSL, but the bit rate, or rate at which information can be transferred is the eye candy...
