Chapter 1
1) When Talzani says to Mark "Pain is always preferable to numbness" Mark doesn't understand to full extent that what Talzani is explaining is that by performing triage Talzani relies on the patients reactions to pain, no feeling means that the patient cant justify his injuries. More than likely leading to the soldier being put to death.
2) When Talzani says "Without you camera, its not easy" Is producing the point that when Mark has to use his eyes to view rather than the lens of the camera. The realisation of what life at war really is, has a more powerful and heartfelt meaning.
3) There is no free will, especially in triage most lives are controlled by one man Talzani, as he mentions he's given wrong colour tags to people because he's too tired to work. He's put to death people with simple broken arms, where is the free will in situations such as that?
4) Talzani doesn't play God to full extent, although as a human he does, from their time entering the cave Talzani is able to decide who lives and who dies within reason. Of course not every wound can handle treatment and some people can die even after being treated, but when Talzani is holding the three coloured tags in his hands, he holds the future of nearly everybody he stands in front of.
5) Talzani is an executioner, the life of every person in the cave relies on his judgment of injuries as to whether they die or survive. Talzani talks in riddles and obviously has a lot of time to think...
