Domestic Violence: Why do women stay in abusive relationships
My little sister has been in an abusive relationship for two in a half years, and I want to understand why she continues to stay with him. I chose the topic of domestic violence, because I feel that there needs to be some awarness on this subject and also to make myself aware of what is going on in the world. Domestic violence is something that happens everyday to thousands of women. Consequently our society doesn't like to realize it, and tries to not recognize it, because they would rather believe it doesn't happen than accept the fact that it does. Nobody likes to talk about it, because it shows that our society has a moral flaw, and that our society isn't as perfect as people think it is. Did you know that 47% of partners, who beat their wives, do it about three or more times a year?
The legal definition for domestic violence is " physical abuse, harassment, intimidation of a dependent, interference of personal liberty or willful deprivation but does not include reasonable direction of a minor child by a parentis (Carter, Jane & Susan Schecter).
