Paraphrase
"How Distant" by Philip Larkin is about the happenings of a long time ago, when settlers were traveling to America, to create a new life. In the first stanza, the author describes the ocean "The green shore past the salt-white cordage". This is an example of how Larkin tries to bring the image of the cool greenish coloured waters into your mind. Next, in the second stanza, we see Philip explaining and describing the different types of people either around or ready to board the ship...
