Biggles For my book report, I chose to do a series of books called Biggles. Biggles is a series of books about Squadron Leader. James Bigglesworth, commonly known as Biggles to his friends. The books were written by Captain. W. E. Johns, who was a pilot in the war himself. Originally the stories were written for a magazine that Captain W. E. Johns edited during breaks in the war and then, because it became so popular he turned them into books. The books are all mainly adventure style stories. There are many scenes with lots of action, but most of the stories are about Biggles getting rid of various enemies and destroying bases once he’s found them. In some of the books there is no real story line, just short stories all about the various adventures and missions undertaken by Biggles and his friends. Although there are books such as Biggles in The Cruise of the Condor and Biggles and the Black Peril that have a story line which continues through the book chapter by chapter. But there are mostly books that have short stories in them. W. E. Johns has written the stories in a way that makes them enjoyable to read. The language is fairly easy to read, although I did have to consult my dictionary on more than one occasion. W. E Johns also uses actual war terminology such as …….., and then explains what the words mean in an index or on the bottom of the page.
