Adventure stories always teach us something. I will be using two different texts to demonstrate this. These texts are "Lord of the Flies" and "Coral Island". While both very different texts they both demonstrate in a number of ways how adventure stories teach us something.
One thing that adventure stories usually teach us is that no matter where you go in this world there is always going to be evil. Often in adventure stories It will start with a really nice peaceful scene, but somehow there will almost always be some kind of bloodshed or evil that finds its way in to the story. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses Binary opposition to bring out the evil in Jack and his gang. Even thought we can see hints of evil in Jack from the beginning, as the story goes on we can see this gradually come out of him. In Coral Island, it is very peaceful amongst Jack, Peterkin and Ralph until we see the fight between the group on the shore of their island. This infiltration of evil upon the island represents the infiltration of evil upon the world...
