The two texts "Talented Mr Ripley" directed by Anthony Minghello and "The Great Gatsby" written by F. Scott Fitzgerald are both similar in the issues they both represent. The American Dream, discrimination and love are the links between the two texts. The Great Gatsby is a novel about Gatsby and his attempts to win back his love Daisy. The context of the text is post WW1 and just before the depression that crippled the world. This period of time was full of parties and bootlegging (which was illegal) for the rich and powerful while the poor were given the illusion of the American Dream. The movie "Talented Mr Ripley" tells of a psychopath and his victims. The movie was set in the exquisitely decadent scapes of Italy post WW2.
