Fredrich Agust von Hayek was born in 1899 to a distinguished Vinnese intellectual family in Austria (Klein). After WWI when he was 19 years of age he attended the University of Vienna, which at that time was one of the best places to study economics in the world. Here he earned doctorates in 1921 and 1923 (Herbner). Even though he was enrolled as a law student his main interests were psychology and economics. He had wanted to help improve the social conditions where he lived because of all of the poverty of the postwar around him (Kirzner).
In 1922 Margit von Mises published "Germein wirtschaft" which was translated later into socialism ( Hayek,1956 ), and this is what converted Hayek to laissez-faire economics. Soon enough Frederich has started attending Mises private seminars regularly. For many years this meeting had become the center of the economic community, but that would change when the beginning of WWI came around Hayek and Mises along with other great economic thinkers of their time decided to leave London in search for different things. This departure was the end of Austria's school of economic thought for a little while.
