The Magic is Gone
"Magic" Johnson was a familiar face and household name, not only in Southern California, but around the world. He was handsome, charming, athletically gifted, a celebrity and a very successful businessman. From the outside, he appeared to have everything a man could want. On October 25, 1991, Earvin Magic Johnson's life changed when he was told by his doctor that he had contracted the HIV virus; the virus later forced him to retire from the National Basketball Association, and devote his life to the HIV awareness amongst teenagers in the United States.
Earvin "Magic" Johnson was born on August 14, 1959 and was raised in Lansing, Michigan. He was the fourth of seven children in his family. Both of his parents were strong influences when it came to the sport of basketball. His dad taught each child in the family the basics of basketball, while his mother would teach them all sportsmanship to go alongside with their skills.
