vBehind the school, the 13 year old girl stood surrounded by her friends in her new pink tube top and pleated miniskirt; she took out her pack of cigarettes and asked for a light. Inhaling her first breath of smoke of the day, she asked her friends “So, what’s the plan tonight?” One of them said she was spending the night at her boyfriends, a couple others suggested a night at a club, drinks at their place, or party at a college friends house. Finally, exhaling, she agreed to go to a club, and turned the conversation quickly, over to useless questions about sex and boys. These days, many adolescents appear to be in a hurry to grow up or too quickly. They tend to act older than they really are because they feel the need to conform to a social norm. The social norm these days, is mostly girls looking older than they are by wearing more revealing clothing, and make-up. For the males, it is always wearing baggy clothes and keeping up their reputation of being “tough” or “bad” by stealing or hurting others. If they did otherwise, they would be left out or considered an “outcast.” Teens are trying so hard to act and look older and be a part of society that without knowing it, society is pushing them along the way. These teens are like clay, they are ready to be molded into anything and media and other influences are the molds that shape them. Unfortunately they are unaware of the consequences that will result from their actions. Two dangers that affect children most in the world are sex and drugs A big “mold” for these children is television.
