Many times there are discrepancies with the way people are portrayed by others. For example, most people have a firm belief behind the idea all Puritans followed this very stern and strict, type of proclamation that didn't allow any room for divergences. The assumptions are based on such writers as Nathaniel Hawthorne, who painted this type of picture of the Puritan life. Such writers gauged the representation of Puritans and Puritan life to the literate public and through it the Puritan were represented. Although, the question still remains of whether or not Puritans were represented truthfully. I believe Hawthorne to have depicted the Puritans in an accurate and cincise manner. Although to understand why Puritans were viewed this way, we must examine the history of Puritans.
The Puritans were a group of people who were discontent with the Church of England and worked towards religious, moral and societal reforms.
