This book does not explain autism. It however, describes how autism
difficulties are recognized and dealt with by teaching and learnig. At the root of
our beliefs about the education of those with autism is the idea that we need to
respect the way in which those individuals think and learn.
Regularity is essential to learning. The child with autism has difficulty
perseiving regularities in the outside world. It is not suprising that they seek to
impose regularity and predictability to their own world.
Play is a diverse and complex behavior that is important to the normal
development of chirldren. Play can also be taught. This improves
opportunities for mixing and social interaction between children. Play is
