Athletes as Role Models
Our society nowadays is almost wholly fixated on the sports. All schools in Singapore require their students to be involved in at least one extra-curricular activity and most students will definitely choose an athletic activity.
In today's world, sport stars and other athletes are looked up to by all ages. Everyone adores them and they look great in the eyes of the everyday public. They appear on television; they perform like rock stars, and do this with the entire world watching. They can do things that most of us can't; throwing down a dunk, running like the wind and just winning all the time. No wonder we make them our heroes and look up to them.
Athletes may not choose to be role models, but their career demands it from them. But do they really deserve it? If you examine athletes while they're not on the court or on the field, you can see what they are like in every dimension...
