Indoor Training vs. Outdoor Training
Saturday, April 3, 2004
The purpose of this independent studies unit is to determine which form of training, outdoor or indoor is better and or more effective I have decided to look at the aspects of indoor training and break it down to determine how the two differ. Outdoor training has been said to be an old formula for training and indoor training is the newly practiced form of training, but I wish to challenge that opinion due to the fact that Kenyan runners whom dominate the running competition do so by conducting intense outdoor training only measurable by Olympian athletes.
It is sometimes more appealing to do indoor training than outdoor training due to the fact that the weather is always the same. ... Running on a treadmill or pedaling on an indoor bike seems much more appealing than going outside in the winter. This is a big reason why many people can choose an indoor workout, especially in the winter months in the East or Midwest, where training outdoors can present a significant challenge. But unfortunately this leads to the athlete being less stimulated during training which causes the individual to become more or less bored. This is a major downside for many regarding indoor aerobic training. ... The effort needed to complete a 10-mile run may vary widely in an outdoor run. ... Unfortunately during outdoor runs like the Boston Marathon, a run on the hills will probably be better and more specific training than a run on a treadmill.
