The novel, Best Little Girl in the World, by Steven Levenkron, Levenkron describes the causes, symptoms and cures for anorexia nervosa. Francesca Dietrich is the teenage girl who develops the disease. Her doctors must find a cure for her before she starves herself to death. One of the causes of anorexia is the portrayal of very thin women in beauty magazines and on television. Girls think, if they want to be beautiful they have to starve themselves to be thin. In addition, if they want to wear the latest fashions that call for a lot of skin to show, they need to be thin, so they look good in the outfit.
