Life and death have many different meanings for many different people. The way people have lived can reflect on the way they may think about death. Whether a person’s life has been good or bad can determine if he or she will have a good view or a bad view on death. Virginia Woolf writes the essay entitled, “The Death of a Moth,” and James Thurber writes the essay entitled, “The moth and the star.” Both these writers have different views on what life and death means to them. ... In both essays the moth represents how each writer views life, how each writer views death, and how the two authors can relate to each other.
In “The Death of a Moth,” Virginia Woolf expresses her feelings toward life. Her symbol of life is this tiny little unimportant moth. In the essay the moth is representing Virginia Woolf, which can tell how life has treated her. ... Virginia Woolf is using the moth to compare it to her life. ... James Thurber has a different view on life. In his essay, “The Moth and the Star,” he shows us how life has a meaning for every living creature, even a little moth. Once again the moth is a symbol for life. James Thurber has a good view on life.
