Today a young, prep hockey player, Billy, received word that he was selected as the top player in his state and was being sent to youth hockey・s version of national camp to represent his state and potentially his country in hockey. ...
But why is this A Sad Day For Soccer? ...
Once upon a time, Billy・s love was soccer. He began when he was five years old in a recreational program, and loved to kick and run with the soccer ball. Billy enjoyed soccer so much his parents asked the author for direction and they were referred to one of the :best; programs in his city with a coach who was reputed as a builder of champions. This coach was a USSF nationally educated coach, and was very knowledgeable about soccer. ... While Billy had some catching up to do with the other boys, learning and growing was fun for him and soccer soon became his favorite thing. ... Billy learned much about soccer, played about 50 percent (%) of the game time and his team won most of their games. ...
Through it all Billy remained loyal to his team
It is because our young hockey hero once loved soccer and now when asked says he hates soccer. His disdain for soccer comes in spite of the fact that he once played and was in love with soccer. This athletic young man began playing soccer starting at the age of six and was washed up, burned out and rejected by our of a broken youth soccer system by the age of 11. When Billy started playing soccer he started at his local club that succeeded in inspiring him with a passion for the game. At the time Billy did not look like a future national team soccer player (or Hockey for that matter). ... After a couple of seasons in a recreational program, Billy tried out for a competitive soccer team at the age of eight.
