Platypus There are very many animals in the freshwater biome. One of the most interesting of them is the Platypus. The Platypus is short, has thick dark-brown fur, two inch wide bill, and can get up to two feet long. The scientific name is Ornithorhynchus Anatinus and the kingdom it is in is called Animilia. In studying the Platypus, one must look at the organisms place in the food chain, where and how the organism lives, and the impact it has on human life. Each animal has its own place in the food web. The Platypus mainly eats things very small. Some examples of its diet include worms, insects, crustaceans, mollusks, and small vertebrates such as tadpoles. Since the Platypus is towards the top of the food chain, it eats many things. Since the Platypus eats a variety and really doesn’t produce anything that means it would be called a consumer.
