Diversity is a major component for almost any organization. It is "the presence of individual, human characteristics that make people different from one another" (Schermerhorn, Hunt, and Osborn, 2003, p. 2). The University of Phoenix has an extremely diverse organization. The staff, instructors, and students are made of different ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds. Since the University of Phoenix believes in teamwork, each team is made up of a diverse group of individuals. While working with a group it is necessary to realize that each person's personality, prospective and attitude is different. Diversity is an excellent thing, but people must know how to approach and interact with each other. Knowing your teammates individually and also your team as a whole will prevent any misunderstandings due to lack of communication.
