We don’t give much thought to the stereotypes that exist concerning gender because some stereotypes have become part of a social norm, for example, we expect man to be doctors and women to be nurses. ... Depending on where you see the advertisement you will find that in images the women are submissive, weak, sexual, or fun. In advertisement we find images of women to be very attractive, with beautiful bodies; what people do not know is that a lot of the images we see on advertisement are not a direct reflection of real life. The focus of this paper will be gender roles as well as stereotypes in advertisement images and how media can have an effect on the formation of gender role stereotypes. ... Due to images such as these, man feel that women should be fun all the time, and when they aren’t they take it against them. Another thing noticeable in this image is the fact that most women in magazine images are white women. ... A lot of images of woman tend to be on beds and or caressing someone or something. ... We have seen that with these three images media is able to persuade girls to be a certain way or to take “their roles”. ... I believe those women have learned to conform to the social expectations. ... Women still have a long way to go to overcome all their social obstacles.
