I'M OPPOSED TO ALL FORMS OF CENSORSHIP. A couple of weeks ago, I watched a movie from 1990 titled "Pump Up the Volume" which starred Christian Slater and Samantha Mathis (who has a cute semi-nude appearance). Basically the movie is about ... "a shy teenager in a new town (a quiet loner by day, a sex crazed free spirited pirate radio dj by night) who comes alive at night to broadcast music (as well as his comments on school, life and sex) he loves (which is totally new to the area) and DJ on a short wave radio (that he converted to FM radio broadcasting). Samantha Mathis plays the girl who discovers who Happy Harry Hard On (Slater's on-air name) really is, and there is of course the expected romantic plot there. This movie is hilarious, but more than that, it's a great movie for teens because of its Free Speech and uncensored messages. This is one of the best films that I have every seen. Some of the lines are great. My favorites ARE probably "TALK HARD STEAL THE AIR" AND "THE TRUTH IS A VIRUS" now that's a powerful statement." "Unauthorized Broadcasters" as the FCC prefers to call the pirates -- gained incredible popularity world wide as people learned how easy and inexpensive it was to enter the pirate radio "hobby". Pirate radio jocks answered to no one, hence the name association with the "pirates" of the open seas. Interestingly the internet facillitated this growth by making the information easy to disseminate.
