The Ohio Statehouse was built between the years 1839 and 1861. Taking 22 years and multiple
architects. The Statehouse was situated on a 10-acre parcel donated by local land owners. It was
built in the Greek Revival style, a style which inspires a feeling of greatness while walking up
to the building. It is a very patriotic structure that inspires people every day. The beautiful Greek
revival state house not only endured labor issues, but is also a geogous building that inspires awe
and patriotism in all that behold it.
During the Statehouse's construction, 22 years, seven architects, an eight year labor
stoppage, and a cholara epidemic later it was finally completed. Because the state house was
built mainly with prison labor forces if you were a stone mason, you had to be especially
careful because the Statehouse commissioners were always searching for additional laborers.
Even the slightest infraction of the law could land a mason in prison. Although most the
foundation and retaining walls were built by prisoners...
