We Aren't Barbie
A young woman stands in front of the mirror and is disgusted by the reflection that only she can see. Thunder thighs, flabby arms, and a pot belly obstruct her view of the beautiful, smart, and loving woman who stares back at her. This is exactly the type of person the advertisement agencies and the media prey upon, someone who is self-conscious and ashamed of her body, someone who is willing to go to any length or pay any price to have the "perfect" body. Unfortunately, us girls believe that diet products will help us look better. That we will soon turn out to be gorgeous, if we just pop a few pills each day and not eat. We perceive ourselves to be like computers. If our Internet speed is too slow, we can replace it with a cable modem, or if we're out dated just spring for a new one. In reality we can't do that with our bodies. Sure you can get liposuction, but that's a bit pricey, and you have to be a perfect candidate for that. So what do we do, but buy diet pills...
