Abstract
Reality television portraying law enforcement and judicial aspects of our society can be found on television at all times of the day. Some of the most popular daytime television shows are those that portray judges with attitudes residing over petty cases that were brought to court for the entertainment of those that enjoy these types of programs. I found it disturbing at the end of viewing one of these programs that there was an advertisement searching for a particular case type. Other television programs such as America's Most Wanted do serve a purpose and have aided in the apprehension of criminals, though I still do not see the purpose of "Cops," other than entertainment.

An Overview of Reality Television
Given the assignment of watching three hours of reality based television I chose to watch a few episodes of Judge Joe Brown and rent "The Best of Cops" home video. I payed close attention to the audience targeted by the advertising, to the race of those viewed both as suspects and police officers. I also took note of the gender and types of crimes committed and tried to determine the education level of the offenders.
During "Judge Joe Brown" the featured case was an African American female plaintiff versus a male of the same race, both were approximately the same age. The plaintiff accused the defendant of credit card theft and assault...
