Throughout "Death of a Salesman", by Arthur Miller, we are introduced to a dysfunctional family where its beliefs are solely based on the value of their family's possessions. The Lomans in general cannot distinguish between reality and illusion, particularly Willy. This is a major theme and source of conflict in the play. Willy cannot see who he and his sons are. He believes that they are great men who have what it takes to be successful and beat the business world. Unfortunately, he is mistaken. In reality, Willy and sons are not, and cannot, be successful. The Lomans believe that the value of life as being distinguished by the amount of money and the amount of material object one possesses. The first paragraph will examine Willy's tragic flaw making him the tragic hero throughout the play. The second paragraph will show how Willy's tragic flaw affects himself...
