There is no evidence found, that the sculptures of Ram, Sita or any other character from Ramayana were made during their lives. Unlike the Greek gods and goddesses or the Egyptian Kings, Ram was not interested in getting his own sculptures made. ... POPULARITY OF SCULPTURES
The popularity of these sculptures spread over, in centuries. This concept about the lives of Ram and Sita, gave boost to the popularity and production of their sculptures.
KEEPING SCULPTURES AT HOME
HOW RAM, SITA AND HANUMAN BECAME GODS AND GODDESS:THE BRAHMANICAL AGE
The transformation of Ram, Sita, and Hanuman into gods and Goddess is a development of much later age. The tales of Ramayana were very famous and the sculptures very populars the priests started presenting then as gods in human form. The sculptures of Rawand were made only to be destroyed, as an act of paying regards and honour to Ram.
TEMPLES & SCULPTURES
This foxed the actists to build huge sculptures of Ram, Sita and Lakshman, to be put in temples.
Hanuman sculptures were not popular then and there no temples had huge Hanuman sculptures. Small sculptures were available but not as many as these of Ram, Sita and Lakshman.
Gradually as these temples gained popularity and as the new gods and goddess were worshipped more and more, the sculptures spread widely.
RELIGIOUS IMPORTANCE:
These sculptures were of extreme religious importance. This importance of sculptures lead to a new variety of postures and peoples in sculptural forms of the religious deities.
