Attitudes on Alcohol Consumption among College Students
Alcohol consumption on college campuses is becoming more and more prevalent among undergraduate students. According to the 2001 University of Michigan Student Life survey, researchers found that almost 86% of their undergraduate population had consumed some quantity of alcohol in the past year. Furthermore, about 74% of the undergraduates reported consuming some amount of alcohol while in their first year of college. In the study done at the University of Michigan, the undergraduates themselves reported that they felt that alcohol use on their campus was very high. Furthermore, researchers considered alcohol the most used "drug" among undergraduates on campus. As you can see from the data above, alcohol use among college students is becoming more and more widespread, which leads us to the question of "why" undergraduate students drink. Why is alcohol consumption so important in an undergraduate's life when in college?
As you can see from the study done above where 86% of the undergraduates had consumed some alcohol in the past year shows how important alcohol really is to these individuals.
