When his father died, he was left with a fairly large company. He used his imagination and developed a sales programme that pushed his sales up to $9 million a year. Since his business was profitable, Ah Teck was able to diversify and acquire a restaurant business under Bok Kee Sundry Wholesale Pte Ltd. By 1998, his annual turnover was $25 million. The company currently has a sundry wholesale operation and 4 seafood restaurants in Singapore and Johor Bahru (Malaysia). The company currently has 400 employees. Throughout the company’s growth, Ah Teck did not delegate authority, and he followed the pattern adopted when the company was much smaller.
