What criteria was engaged in the selection of the 7 Wonders of the World? ... The Hanging Gardens of Babylon embrace both of these decisive qualities. A king to show his devotion and love for his queen created the great gardens. The term “hanging” does not directly relate to the Gardens, however many people misinterpreted the gardens for appearing to hang. Magnificent inventions were designed to ensure the gardens continued to bloom in the heat and arid climate of the region. Herodotus a 450 BC historian wrote, “In addition to its size, Babylon surpasses in splendor any city in the known world.” Babylon by description must have been a true wonder to see; amazingly enough to this date the existence of the city and its renowned gardens remains unconfirmed.
Nebuchadnezzar II (604-562 BC) was the great leader of Babylon, a fearless warrior and also an outstanding builder, who erected the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. The gardens were built for the king’s wife, Amyitis, to erase her longing desire for the mountains and the meadows of her homeland.
