Affirmative action was a measure, designed to enhance the standard of living and quality of life for minorities in America. Today, just as 50 years ago, discrimination continues to reign against African American people. Many white people are angry about affirmative action, so opposition to a company's affirmative action plan can be expected. Some of that opposition may come from the most valued and experienced employees, who are likely to be older, white males. As a result, many firms are not going to make the effort toward a successful affirmative action program unless they have top executives devoted to expanding opportunities for minorities. They may have to be given a vigorous push by the government.
The practice of affirmative action is, of course, pervasive today and yet, its principle has always been a bit uncertain. That uncertainty has made it necessary for the friends of affirmative action to tread cautiously and quietly, and to speak as if the policy were no better than a necessary evil.
Affirmative action places stipulations on corporate America concerning the hiring process in order to compensate for past injustices, overcome discrimination and provide equal job opportunities for all races. Since the policy has been in effect, it has produced more job opportunities for blacks and there has been consistent percentage increase of African Americans in corporate America every year...
