The Wild Iris
Poetry is the genre of writing that comes most close to confession. Nothing bares the soul like a well-crafted poem poured forth from the depths of the heart. Louise Gluck is a contemporary American poet with strength of voice and an amazing clarity of emotional language. Her images are gripping, sometimes deserted, dry and at other times vivid and vibrant. Common to all her pieces is the ability to move the reader to feel emotion. Maybe it is a sudden gasp of revelation of connection or perhaps the moment comes later, when the poem resurfaces from deep in memory. Emotions are evoked.
"The Wild Iris" is an example of one of Louise Gluck's poems.
