In this day and age, we need a license to do just about everything. We need a license to drive a car; we need one to go hunting, ridiculously; we even need a license to sell raffle tickets. Why is there no such law that says that, we need a license to raise children? ...
Some people view the idea of introducing a parenting licence as, “elitist” and “authoritarian”, believing that the basic requirements of the licence might discriminate against race or socioeconomic background. ... This philosophy coincides with that of the parenting license. ... Many great suggestions have been made for example: Katherine Covell and Brian Howe, directors of the Children’s Rights Centre at the University of Cape Breton, USA, suggest that parents be made to, “Pass a certified course in child development and first aid, obtain a license and then sign a contract agreeing not to abuse or neglect the child. ... ” Many skeptics of the parenting licence believe that there would be no effective way to enforce the ideals of a parenting licence and that many people would break the law.
