An historic force that caused conflict in Europe from 1912-1913 was Nationalism. Nationalism was a huge factor and continued to grow, right up to the outbreak of World War 1. Each country in the world had a strong desire for its people sharing customs, similar language and history, to rule themselves in their own territory. Yet, the more nationalism evolved, the more it became into promoting a country's power and strength, economically and with Militarism.
The Balkan region seemed to be in high demand from 1908. Three empires- Turkey, Austria-Hungary and Russia were clashing over land in the Balkans. National groups over Europe started to form and put pressure on their imperial masters for separate, more independent and strong nations. The Turkish Empire (Turkey) was currently struggling to rule its remaining Balkan territories, and as it weakened, groups of Serbians, Greeks, and Bulgars revolted against the Empire and set up their own, separate nation states. Problems arose for the Austro-Hungarian as it was the most multi-national empire with many different racial groups placing nationalistic pressures. Then in 1912, after much time of tension between the new formed states in the Balkans, Serbia, Greece, Bulgaria and Montenegro pushed aside their quarrels to from an alliance called the Balkan League...
