The Bay Of Pigs Operation was thought about during the Eisenhower administration as a type of guerrilla insertion where we were going to aid a group of exiles in getting into Cuba and launching a successful operation in overthrowing the government of Fidel Castro. A lot of this fear was brought about because of the United States fear of communism being so close to home. This policy was also known as containment which was a policy that the United States developed to stop the spread of communism. Later, Operation Bay of Pigs was passed on to the Kennedy administration where it was finally decided that the final project would involve a full-scale invasion against Cuba with a United States led force of exiles. The brigade of exiles has been come to known as Brigade 2506. The operation was led and ran by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). Although the CIA had all of the information located with in the agency there was no single person that knew all the details of the operation. It was compartmentalized so that in case something was to leak out to the public that all of the details of the operation would not be exposed. In the early morning hours of April 17th, 1961 a force of approximately fifteen hundred exiles landed on the shores of Bahia de Cochinos. They managed to establish a beachhead and held there ground against a numerically superior enemy for three days before the exiles eventually ran out of ammunition and were captured, killed, or some how managed to escape...
