World War I
The first World War did not just happen overnight, it had been building up for years. Many countries contributed to the starting of the World War I. Long term causes such as nationalism, imperialism, and militarism promoted the beginning of World War I. Alliances were made between Britain, France, Russia, Canada, and later the USA (Allies or Triple Entente), and the other group was Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy (Central Powers or Triple Alliance).
One long-term cause was Nationalism. Strong competition had developed among France, Britain, Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Germany, especially after the unification of Germany, under Bismarck, in 1871. There was also uneasiness within countries. The Czechs and Slovaks wanted to be free from Austro-Hungarian control.
Imperialism also lead to World War I. Many nations were in heavy competition for colonies and markets throughout the world...
