The Four Functions of Management
Some similes for the word management are organizing, planning, administration, and supervision; these similes are parallel to the four functions of management, which are, planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Communication is the corner store of these four functions. If a manager does not communication and/or ignore one of these four functions it will ultimately deteriorate the department they are overseeing.
Planning
Planning is the preparation, scheduling, development and arrangement of goals and ideas.
" Prepare your goals and ideas for further insight and input from employees
" Schedule time to meet with employees to prepare for the development and arrangement of these goals and ideas.
" Develop a plan of action for goals and ideas.
" Arrange the who, what, when and where of the action plan to implement the goal and or idea.
Planning is something that should be done on a day to day basis. You plan out your day, what are the household needs, what is for dinner, what time to get up in the morning and out the door in order to get to work on time? If you were to skip this function of management you would have chaos in your department...
