Not everything is as it appears to be
This paper will explore the director's ability to differentiate the classes that were present. The 1939 movie Stagecoach directed by John Ford. The director has established two characters in this movie: one is Mrs. Mallory, who is depicted as a refined lady from the East; and Dallas on the other hand is portrayed as a saloon girl and commoner. The director conveys the message of the characters in different formats throughout the movie.
The first scene introduces Mrs. Mallory as she is getting off the stagecoach. She is dressed in refinement, with a blouse and coat buttoned to the neckline, and her hat sits properly on her head. A gentleman calls her madam and offers his hand to assist her down from the stagecoach. As she descends, her head is held high and she surveys the city with an air that she belongs...
