My Country, by Dorothea Mackellar (Area of Study Literature, Textual Form Poetry), is a poem about ones love of Australia. The narrator speaks fondly of her country, with strong emphasis on nature, and the ever changing,
unpredictable weather. The theme of the story is Australia. Techniques used to
convey the meaning of the poem include the title of the poem, narration in the
first person, rhyme, tone, and imagery.
The title of the poem, My Country, advises the reader that the poem will be
about someone writing of their country. The title could mean many things, it is
quite broad and general. The personal pronoun, 'my' is the indicator that the
poem will be in first person narration, and could possibly give the impression
that it will be of a personal nature.
"I know but cannot share it, my love is otherwise" Narration in the first person
is an important feature of the poem, it unleashes emotion. The reader is more
easily able to connect to the narrator, and the narrators' thoughts.
Rhyme is also an important part of this poem...
