Discourse analysis is applicable to many different situations and subject matters. M.M Bakhtin and Michel Foucault use discourse to analyze literature. Bakhtin the author of the "Discourse in the Novel" and Foucault the author of "The Order of Discourse" both have very different views on the subject of discourse. Discourse can be defined as a way of approaching and thinking about a problem. It is neither a measurable nor a qualitative method of research. Rather, it is a way of questioning the primary notions that go along with measurable and qualitative research. Discourse analysis enables us to reveal hidden motivations behind texts and to interpret them better. Both these authors take on a deconstructive reading and interpretation of literature. They do not necessarily come up with an absolute answer to the specific problems they access, but they do give us support that enables us to understand the conditions behind the problems they are accessing...
