The automobile was not created by one person their self. It was created by many people and over 100,000 patents. Inventors from all over the globe improved and modified other inventors inventions, which now leads us to our automobile today. However, we can point to the many firsts that occurred along the way, the first theoretical plans for a motor vehicle were drawn up by both Leonardo da Vinci and Isaac Newton. This means people had many ideas of new ways to get around.
French engineer and mechanic, Nicolas Joseph Cugnot (1725 - 1804) used a steam engine to power his automobile he built in 1869. It had a very poor turning radius. While in the street one time, someone had wrecked it into a brick wall, this was known as the first automobile accident. It was used in France for the army. It carried heavy artillery at a really fast rate, not really, 2 MPH...
