As the need for network connectivity becomes more of a demand, so does the need for convenience and availability to access and transmit data at a moments notice. Wireless access is fast becoming the latest and most demanding form of network access today, and is not entirely a new concept. This paper will discuss wireless technology with emphasis on what wireless networks are, where they came from, and how they were developed. Other topics discussed will be the history and the differences of the 802.11 standards, and the different bandwidths available for wireless networks as well as security issues and any new solutions. New wireless technologies will also be discussed, involving research of wireless broadband 802.16.
