Cross Cultural Communication in Regards to Syntax, Semantics, and Kinesics
The main purpose of this research was to provide a clearer view on how Syntax, Semantics, and Kinesics are able to cross cultures successfully in our world. Over the years cross cultural communication has been more widely studied and readily available at one's fingertips as opposed to 50 years ago. There are now sites available on the web to help an individual learn how to successfully communicate across certain cultures (newtrainingideas.com 2004). Before we get into the research lets first define Syntax, Semantics, and Kinesics according to Dictionaryreference.com and then explain how each can cross cultures successfully.
Syntax is defined as "That part of grammar which treats of the construction of sentences; the due arrangement of words in sentences in their necessary relations, according to established usage in any language." (Webster's 1996) When looking at syntax in the play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare it can be seen how even a language barrier can still translate correctly to have the same impact as originally intended. This is also true with another of William Shakespeare's plays titled "Romeo and Juliet". It can be said that this is largely due to the fact that love can cross any boundaries and can be understood in any culture and in this lasting play it is in fact the case...
