Stress among college students
The phrase "I am so stressed" is often used a lot, especially among college students. Stress is often described as a factor that induces bodily or mental tension. Being away from home and having to adapt to a new environment is stressful. From my own personal experience, I would say that the most stressful thing about college is learning how to manage your time properly. There is no one here to tell you all the time to do this or do that, one has to take on a lot of responsibility being away from home. Researches and experiments have been performed on many students in different college setting to see if stress is higher on college students than others.
In 2002, O. Bojuwoye wrote an article, entitled "Stressful experiences of first year students of selected Universities in South Africa" points out that people generally feel emotionally less secure in a new or strange environment. A main factor which first year students face is an adjustment problem, the result of stressful experience they are subject to by the conditions, events, or situations in their new environment.
