RE: Selection Process for Cashiers
Dear Mr. Long,
Thank you for your recent memo regarding the possible relationship between cashier staffing and the financial issues Long Holdings is currently experiencing.
To review our current staffing situation, Long Holdings employs approximately 3,000 people in 57 pharmacies in Upstate New York. There are 250 positions in the corporate office, 100 in distribution, and 2650 in the retail stores of which 600 are cashier positions. The turnover rate for the cashier positions is 75% (450 employees) of which 4% (20) were terminated due to theft. The high turnover rate for the cashiers is something that needs to be addressed.
The current candidate selection processes consists of a ten minute interview with the store manager. I propose the following process:
1. Applicants complete the employment application forms and submit them to the Human Resources department.
