In England during the Neolithic in Western Europe, Stonehenge was constructed into three or four stages between c. 2750 and 1300 bce or to be more precise, 4,000 years ago. It is still a sacred unique monument of stone circles and horseshoe shaped massive stones with one stone laid across the top weighing several tons that were raised upright. The upright position of the large single blocks according to theory was beliefs of ritual spaces and burials during this era that is also known as a megalith or as menhirs.
The arrangement of the stones at Stonehenge also reveals the importance of celestial events for Neolithic peoples. The emphasis on the summer solstice implies that it was the most important of the events.
A professor of art history at Sweet Briar College in Virginia by the name of Christopher Witcombe and authority on Stonehenge, believes that Stonehenge's mysterious monument can be explained in details with advanced architecture shown in the erection of the site.
