Oedipus Rex vs. Othello
Aristotle defined a tragic hero with five characteristics. A tragic hero first must be born of noble stature. This tragic hero must also possess a tragic flaw. This tragic flaw gives the hero human characteristics and because of his choices contribute to his downfall. A tragic hero must also have a punishment that exceeds his crime. The hero must also fall from high stature. This fall usually is not a total loss, because it brings the hero to a point of recognition. The story of the tragic hero should also produce catharsis.
