When you look in the mirror, what do you see? For someone suffering from bulimia, the image in their mind is far from what they really look like. Bulimia is an eating disorder in which the affected will, most commonly, binge and then gorge their food. This disease can be found in anybody, but most commonly it is found in teenage girls. Although many people see it as merely an unhealthy habit, bulimia is actually a very serious disorder which, ultimately, can result in death. This essay will open your eyes to the causes, signs, diagnosis, and treatment of bulimia.
The greek word bulimia means "hunger of an ox", and that definition describes the nature of the disease well. Many people with bulimia will binge, or eat uncontrollably, and then feel shameful or guilty afterwards. They will then try to relieve themselves of this guilt by purging, or getting the food out of their bodies. This is done in several ways including vomiting and using laxatives...
