Many people would not think of the skydiving industry to be too large of an industry, but upon reading this study, one would realize the extent that skydiving has evolved. I now understand that the skydiving arena is a much bigger industry than my original thoughts. Skydiving has become an extremely competitive market over the past couple of years. For a perspective on skydiving's popularity, over five million jumps are made worldwide and over three million jumps in America alone; and those numbers came from 1998. Adrenaline Air Sports, owned by Billy Cockrell is an example of an emerging company that is attempting to enter into and become successful in the skydiving industry. Cockrell found his love for this high altitude, high adrenaline sport after he enlisted in the Navy and eventually recanted on his uncle's past offer to take him on a tandem skydive jump. Upon taking jump after jump with his uncle, Cockrell had already started dreaming of owning and operating his own drop zone. When Cockrell returned to the Navy, he began some SEAL training that made him really experienced in skydiving; he also reportedly recruited forty to fifty people to take their first jump also. Adrenaline Air Sports opened in November of 1999 near Roanoke, VA at Smith Mountain Lake Airport. Cockrell borrowed from the Navy to purchase a single engine Cessna and used Ebay to purchase other equipment...
